INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF ASTRONOMY 2009 AND AAV LUE-STAILAS

With its inauguration now scheduled for summer 2009, AAV Lue-Stailas is very fortunate to be able to participate in the exciting events accompanying IYA2009 worldwide.

Remembering the first astronomical observations through a telescope by Galileo Galilei 400 years ago, the International Year of Astronomy should "help the citizens of the world rediscover their place in the Universe through the day- and night-time sky, and thereby engage a personal sense of wonder and discovery" (from the IYA2009 brochure)

AAV Lue-Stailas has already joined in June 2008 an International Astronomy Community established to commemorate IYA2009, by placing its first robotic telescope at the Southern Galactic Telescope Hosting facility in Australia. In partnership with scientists, professional and advanced astronomers and science writers from many countries, Southern Galactic and Northern Galactic International (click the world hemispheres to the right) aims to gather together research and discoveries in the areas of optical and radio astronomy, astrophotography, planetary studies, and space atmospheric sciences as a service to the interested public.

The connection of AAV Lue-Stailas with Southern Galactic will allow to bring the wonders of the southern night skies to the desktops of our visitors in Lue and will help to promote interaction between amateur and professional astronomers across the globe.

Our new astrophotography center in Lue is also participating in national activities promoting the public interest in astronomy and will be one of the hosting places for a traveling astronomy exhibition organized by fingertip:

To get us in the right mood for IYA2009, the two presentations in pdf format below (enlarge and leaf through them by clicking on the picture) originate from the official IYA2009 website and contain introductory material about the history of the telescope and the essence and purpose of astronomical research and its impact on our daily life.

Tune in into the fascinating realm of stars, galaxies, and nebulae - we are looking forward to welcome you at AAV Lue-Stailas for informative and entertaining sessions in astronomy and astrophotography throughout IYA2009 and beyond!
